7 night Driving Tour Southern Spain - Feb

We will be flying into Malaga the end of Feb '18. We are 4 adults ranging from (21 - 79 years old). Trying to find a good and sensible driving trip starting in Malaga (cheapest flight from Morocco for our date) and ending in Granada (only airport that gets us to Madrid in time for our fight home).

Towns we have considered getting hotels are

Nerja (1 night), Ronda (1 night), Seville (2 nights), Cordoba (1 night) and Granada (2 nights).

Does think route work? Any suggestions or towns to stop in on the way to each location? Open to any and all suggestions!

Although I understand the virtues of a night in Cordoba, I wouldn't want to stay in five different hotels over the course of seven nights. One thing you could change to cut the number of hotels would be visiting Cordoba as a day-trip from Seville.

I haven't been to Nerja and have no idea whether it's worth it; I hate one-night stops. Ronda I know; it's definitely worth it.

Thank you very much for the information. Would you recommend then 3 nights in Seville?

Agree about one night stays. Three nights in Seville is very good with the day trip to Cordoba. You could even consider dropping off the car in Seville and only using public transportation from that point forward. The bus from Seville to Granada is very convenient.

We spent a couple nights in Nerja in September. We only did so to have a little beach time. The Caves outside of Nerja are really cool, but with so few nights, I would consider it skip-able and add that night to Seville or Ronda. Enjoy!

Edit to add: We drove from Nerja to Ronda and only had 1N. We would have loved to stay 2N, so if you are already taking the night from Cordoba and adding it to Seville, I would recommend 2N in Ronda. Have fun planning!

I would drop Nerja for this mid winter trip.

  1. Arrive Malaga. Pick up car & drive to Ronda (1 night)
  2. Drive to Arcos or Jerez (1 night)
  3. Drive to Seville (3 nights) & return car
  4. Seville
  5. Seville
  6. Morning train to Córdoba for Mezquita. Evening train to Granada (2 nights)
  7. Alhambra
  8. Depart Granada

Thank you so much for all the advise. I think we are now thinking

Ronda - 1 night
Seville - 3 nights (drop the car the first day)
Take the train to Cordoba for a day trip and then train to Granada - 3 nights

Our flight is at 7:00 am, so even though 3 nights it is really two days.

Is there luggage storage in Cordoba train station? My parents are in their 70's and we will definitely need to store our bags for the day.

If anyone has luxury small hotels they love in Ronda, Seville, or Granada or other things we should take into consideration, I am very open to suggestions!

Thanks!

What time is your flight from Madrid? If you are separately ticketed from Granada to Madrid and there's any delay, you could lose your transatlantic flight home!!

Instead, I'd recommend Nerja to Granada (bus/train), then by car through Ronda, drop the car in Sevilla, Cordoba and final night in Madrid. In Cordoba there is luggage storage in the bus station across the street from the train station. You could see Cordoba on the way to Madrid.
