My husband and I will arrive in Madrid early morning on Oct. 8th. We need to be in Seville for wedding festivities the 10-13th.
Train back to Madrid on the 13th, flying out the 14th. Looking for suggestions. would really like to visit a wine region while there. Should we go Southwest to Ribera del Guadiana for a night before going into Seville? Or to Valdepenas towards Granada? planning a day trip out if Seville for sherry in Jerez. Wish we had more time. Any suggestions will be helpful. Willing to rent a car or use trains/buses. Thanks!
My favorite wine in Spain is Valdepenas. Another choice is Vitoria (northwest of Madrid) that is the center of the Rioja wine region.
Beware wineries in Spain aren't open to the public like they are in the US. You can visit, and probably a much better tour, but have to reserve a day or two ahead rather than drop in. There are some wine museums (Valdapenas and Penafiel come to mind) that can be visited without a reservation.
Jerez, easy day trip from Seville, has great Bodegas that are open to the public and I'd highly recommend them - but they make Sherry (which Spain also considers a wine). We stopped there for a day and visited the biggest Bodega, Tio Peppe/Domicq, and nearby Osborne (which makes Manzanilla Sherry and Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry).
