6 people (over 50) traveling from Girona to Sitges

We all have luggage and have never been on a European train. Even though older, no Physical problems. Can we realistically travel by train? Any luggage restrictions? Having problems finding transportation companies. Help! Would appreciate feedback.

Like most trains, there is usually a space between carriages or above the seating for people to store luggage. People often travel with luggage on trains.

European trains are very comfortable and easy. This website is great for all information related to train travel. https://www.seat61.com/Spain.htm or for more specificity: https://www.seat61.com/Spain-trains.htm
As for "realistically travel[ing] by train", that depends where you want to go on the train. Not all locations are served by train but many many are, certainly from Girona to Sitges. Im not sure what you mean by transportation companies. Are you talking about finding tickets for the train?

How much luggage? If we are talking Rick Steves packing-a suitcase and carryon, then the train is fine, as there are luggage racks above the seats and in the back of carriages. If more, it might be a problem.

For tickets from Girona to Sitges, there is no direct train from Girona to Sitges, you have to transfer at Barcelona Sants. Below is a link to a Tripadvisor forum thread that explains how to do this.

@hanko844,

Have you ever travelled in Amtrak's Acela Express to/from DC?? If you have you'll feel at home with our even faster AVE train, if not, prepare to be amazed. AVE trains (fast-trains, travel at speeds of 150-180mph) are a bit like aeroplanes that don't take off.

Your best bet is to take a fast train from Girona to Barcelona, to Estació de Sants. This is a major transport hub in Barcelona. Once there, go up from the tracks to the main hall and at the Information Desk they can direct you to the appropriate track for a commuter train to Sitges, They can also help you purchasing your tickets at the ATMs, or if you prefer you can go to the manned booths.

AVE train tickets can be pre-booked (and you should do so) at www.renfe.com The leg of the journey to Sitges you simply buy tickets at the station when you get there. There's no pre-booking for commuter trains and you have several per hour so if you can't catch one you catch the next.

The journey from Girona to Barcelona on AVE train takes 40', the journey from Barcelona to Sitges on a commuter train (Rodalies) also takes 40'. As per how do they look like inside, this is a typical AVE train, this is a typical commuter train.

Enjoy!

I use www.loco2.com for trains. It has the same trains that Renfe does- but it is a much easier website to use. You can create a free acct- pay in dollars or euros- print at home or mobile tickets. No mark up- I highly recommend!
Trains have space for luggage.

Happy Travels✨💫

Thanks everyone for your detailed responses. Especially loved video of the trains. The group has determined that we are renting a van for the four days after our cruise. This way we can pick up van in Barcelona and drive to Girona - stay the 2 days (going to Figueres while there) then drive to Sitges for the remaining two days. It's a challenge keeping everyone happy.
