50th Anniversary in Madrid

We're spending our 50th Wedding Anniversary in Spain and Portugal. On our Anniversary date we will be in Madrid and would like to find a nice restaurant in the Atocha train area for a special dinner, and an early dinner, we're not late diners. Any suggestions?

The old town zone of Madrid is relatively compact and easy to traverse, especially with the use of taxi's, so I encourage you to welcome suggestions beyond the area of the train station.

How early is "early" to you? Normal Madrid dinner starts at 10 PM; fancy places won't open before 9 PM (sometimes not until 9:30 PM). There are lots of places to get dinner earlier, but I'm not sure if they will be "special" to you; they tend to be casual places (tapas, burgers, etc).

Moratin Vinoteca Bistrot

Plaza Santa Ana is a lively spot with some good places to eat.
Perhaps a drink and tapas at Mercado San Miguel first, and after at the splendid roof top bar of the ME Hotel.

Nothing more depressing than dining alone in a restaurant - please don't go for dinner in Spain until 9pm.
