5 hours in Palma de Majorca

Hello,

I'm going on a Norwegian Cruise and we will be in Palma de Majorca on a Saturday, docking at 2pm and leaving 7pm. A very tight window.

I have seen some amazing pictures of the Formentor Lighthouse. I understand it's about an hour and a half from Palma and you pretty much either need to rent a car or hire a driver. I would love to surprise my husband with a trip there because he is crazy for lighthouses and I think it would be so neat. Do you think that is doable in 4 hours or so? How much do you think it would cost, and is it easy to hire drivers upon arrival? I'm a little nervous about putting my life in the hands of someone I've never met (apparently the road is very treacherous). . . but if others have done it I'd be more likely to give it a try.

There is also option of the train to Soller- NCL has an excursion for $89 per person- or we could try to do it on our own. I am leaning towards the excursion if I decide against the lighthouse just because our time is so limited, but if we can do it on our own, I would prefer that.

I'm also interested if there are any good beaches within walking distance of port or very easy to get to, if we decide against those two options.

I have the Rick Steve's Mediterranean Cruising guide but there's no entry on Majorca!

Thanks in advance!

Crystal
