48 hrs to drive San Sebastien to Barcelona, worth stopping in Andorra?

we have 2 days to get from San Sebastien > Barcelona; thinking to stop somewhere overnight then drive through Andorra. Andorra worth it for a day? Any suggestions of routes (via France or not) & where to stop would be appreciated!

The capital (Andorra-la-Vella) was not attractive in 1972, and it has apparently gone downhill since then. The term "strip mall" is bandied about.

We've had a few posts on the forum from people who've driven in the Spanish Pyrenees. I'm not one of those people; my experience in that general area is limited to a few places I could reach by train or bus. Puigcerda and La Seu de Urgell both have pretty historic districts. The Spanish town of Llivia surrounded by France is also interesting. La Seu de Urgell is probably rather far off your driving path. Puigcerda and Llivia are in the Cerdanya Valley, which gets very hot in the summer.

I agree with Acraven's assessment, I think there are nicer places to stop in between San Sebastian and Barcelona, in lieu of Andorra. If you want to do the route closer to the Pyrenees, then you could potentially make a stop in Jaca or Huesca and make day trips to Loarre Castle (30 min drive) and/or the Romanesque churches of the Vall de Boí (about 2 hrs drive).

Hi from Wisconsin,
Unless you need to collect a nation-state for your list of places gone to...SKIP it. Or if you want to shop in a gigantic shopping district without charm...if not SKIP it. And it is out of your way. Better to pick a small town along your way to have a relaxed lunch. San Seb. to Barcelona is along way. The four lane highway is also without charm.

It’s further south, but how about stopping in Zaragoza?

I disagree, and I believe it's about time someone points out the rights of this small and peculiar country located between Catalonia and France which is often overlooked and disdained. Andorra is a paradise for nature lovers, especially those enticed by mountain-related experiences: flora, fauna and landscapes. If that's not your vibe, then skip Andorra, but if you enjoy an "escapade to the mountains", you know what I mean!, then Andorra is your place. I grant you, it's not the only one, of course, you can have also many great mountain-related experiences in Catalonia and in several other neighbouring places, after all the Pyrenees range crosses several territories, but Andorra encapsulates a number of advantages in a small patch, so to speak: nature, shopping, culture and entertainment.

Andorra is a beautiful country located in a breath-taking environment among some of the biggest mountain ranges in the South of Europe. The little principality has some of the best ski resorts and adventure sports offer as well as many other leisure attractions such as modern wellness centres and spas -in Andorra la Vella, Escaldes-Engordany, Ordino, La Massana, Canillo and Encamp- offering many trendy treatments such as ayurvedic rituals, argan rituals, aromatherapy, peels and vinotherapy; a few adventure camps (Magic Canillo, Naturlandia, Segudet Adventure Park) for children and grownups to have fun, a permanent high-quality show by Cirque du Soleil and lots of shops to purchase at lower prices than in its neighbour countries due to the particularly limited tax system in Andorra.

HOWEVER, for those "not" driving,

Andorra is not a place to visit in a day, much less from Barcelona. You'd spend several hours on a bus and you'd be only able to visit wherever the bus leaves you, probably its capital-city Andorra La Vella. Andorra is a country to be visited by car as some of its hidden gems are not next to its main city and I would warrant at least three full days to get a taste, visiting several of its most memorable sites.

Enjoy!

PS: This is not to say that its capital, Andorra La Vella, is not particularly "appealing".
