Hi there. We are almost at the end of planning a trip by public transport to Spain and Portugal in September and October. We want a mix of smaller places and cities with not too much moving around. Coming from the Algarves, we have 6 nights in Seville, 2 in Ronda, 4 in Granada and 4 in Cordoba before hitting Madrid for 5 nights. In Cordoba we have planned a daytrip to Malaga as well as going to Castle of Almodovar and Medina Azahara. Is a day trip the other way around (normally people stay in Malaga, right?) feasible as it looks closer from Cordoba than it is from Granada by train.
Given that you are planning visits outside the city, I'd say you four days in Cordoba are just fine. As well as the mesquita, there are other sights and it is a lovely place just to wander round, incl some beautiful gardens. I loved to visit when I lived on the coast - it's my favourite city in Spain.
Malaga has much more of a "city" feel, although it too has its charms - the narrow streets of the old city, the Roman ruins, the Alcazar and the art galleries. A full day there will allow you to see most things.
Book tickets in advance for the Picasso museum, if you wish to visit.
Thanks for responding. We are really looking forward to seeing Cordoba and there are many positive comments about how beautiful it is.
With the side trips, 4 nights in Córdoba is fine.
I forgot to add, we want to focus more on the cultural sites as we too come from a beautiful beach town. I will definitely book tickets to the Picasso museum in advance. We would plan to catch the 7am train and return later that evening to make a full day of sightseeing. I will go ahead and book 4 days then. Thanks once again for this confirmation- both of you.
