Late September we will be ending a 14 day cruise with friends for four more days in Barcelona. They will fly back to the States and we will have 3 free days before going to France to join a planned group event. We have no idea what we will do with those three days and are keeping the plans open. We will listen to people we meet who have suggestions and may do something we have never done. We could go to our French destination early or maybe just go to a beach for a break after what I expect will be a busy time in Barcelona? We can take the high speed train directly to our destination in France from Barcelona so my question for the forum is does it makes sense to me to just stay?
Our favorite Rick Steve's tour was 7 days in Rome. We knew we could not see Rome on our own but had no idea how fantastic it would be to see Rome the way Rick Steve's plans it. Adding this for anyone thinking of taking that tour. We love Rome and have returned several times. I do not think that we would feel this way if we had not taken the RS tour.
Where will you be staying in France? There may be somewhere between Barca and thereabouts that is worth a stay.
Yes, 3 hours by train in the opposite direction, but, Valencia could be a nice place
to spend 3 days.
You've got only four nights in Barcelona, so I would recommend either extending your stay and doing a few days trips, or taking the train to Girona and visit that city and one town on the Costa Brava, where the weather (I hope) will still be warm enough for the beach and swimming... You could also include the Dali Museum in Figueres. Or Cadaques.
But at that time of year, my vote would be the Costa Brava. (I will be there about the same time, next month!). I've done a lot of researching about hotels in that area, so if you are interested, I could offer the names of a few that looks great, including the one we have booked for ten nights outside Begur.
I'd happily spend all that time in Barcelona, one of my favorite cities. Lots to see and do for all and great day trips. Take a gander at the official TI website.
