We are planning a visit to Spain around the August 12 2026 eclipse. We already booked Valencia for the actual eclipse. We are six adults and three children (9,8,6). We probably want to see two other cities over 10 days. What do you suggest as an itinerary?
10 days or 10 nights?
How many nights in Valencia?
Where do you plan to fly in/out ?
10 nights, no plans for air travel yet, 2 nights in Valencia
I'd certainly book Barcelona for at least 5 days. From there you can make easy day trips to Girona, Tarragona, Montserrat, and a myriad of other places. Some suggestions: https://act.gencat.cat/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/PETIT_CATALEG_FAMILIAR-ENG-RV.pdf
I apologize if you’ve already accounted for this, but from the maps I’ve looked at, you will not be in the path of totality in Valencia. The path travels just north of there.
Has anyone checked with the locals to see if they want tourist in Spain during the eclipse?

Don't worry, we make exceptions for special occasions like eclipses ;-)
Valencia is within the boundaries of the total eclipse. We could travel to Tarragona. Total eclipse will be around 20:30 on August 12, 2026.
Seems like the Spaniards are building a virtual wall to keep tourists out. Where can we stay close to Barcelona that is easily accessible by public transport.

Certainly not, the vast majority of Spain continues to welcome tourists with open arms. Unfortunately there are many uninformed people, even on this forum, trying to push this harmful narrative that all Spain hates tourists.
Carlos, to be fair, its the news media promoting that and not just Spain, but ALL OF EUROPE.
Based on what is communicated to USA, Certainly Barcelona is the center of tourist resistance.
So much misinformation here don't know whether to laugh or cry. From what I see printed in the United States infotainment news they make it sound like there's a mass uprising or inquisition against tourists across all of Spain.
There is video of tourists being shot with water guns in Barcelona. Also mass protests by residents. Is this not real?
I just spent three wonderful days in Barcelona. I saw that in the news as well and had some concern in advance, however, had absolutely zero encounters in that (albeit short time) suggesting tourists were unwelcome. I plan to return someday. So much more to do/explore than what I had time for.
And I found the Eixample District just stunning with it’s unique block design of diagonal corners as well as Mordernista architecture. Eye candy :)
I understand the Spanish are using Aztec curses on tourists and the eclipse is part of the ritual.
