Our extended family is planning a trip to see the eclipse over Spain. We are six adults and three children under 10. We don’t want to stay in a city since this will be August 12 and hot. We are thinking a relatively quiet coastal town between Barcelona and Valencia. Suggestions?
I don’t think that’s an ideal location. The altitude is going to be pretty low (15 degrees) and the azimuth (direction) is westerly. That means buildings, hills, etc. may block your view. I would look for somewhere on the west coast, with an unobstructed view to the west over the water. Galicia would be ideal and extreme heat should not be a problem there. A Coruña looks like a good location. Riazor beach or the Torre de Hercules might be good locations. There are a host of smaller towns along the Costa da Morte that would also be good.
You can check the path of totality and the altitude and azimuth at any location
