2 Weeks - Madrid & Andalucia, end of March into April

Working on an itinerary for 2 weeks in Spain, arriving on Good Friday, March 26, 2016 and departing Fri. April 8th. Flying in and out of Madrid. Wife and I have been to Madrid before, though many years ago and don't want to brave the crowds at Santa Semana processions.
So, my thoughts are:
3 nights in Madrid (can go to Toledo if want to see processions)
Train to Seville for 4 nights
Bus or train to Ronda for 2 nights
Train to Granada for 3 nights
Cordoba for 2 nights
Early train from Cordoba to Madrid and then bus to airport for 1 PM flight

Questions: What might be open/closed in Madrid on Good Friday and Easter. Enough time in each city/too much somewhere. Weather this time of year (assume cool in Madrid and nicer in Andalucia).

Thanks

I think your schedule sounds perfect for you.
I did spend Easter in Spain once, but it was too long ago to be of any assistance with openings on Good Friday.
You may be lucky but be prepared for any late wintry weather in Granada and Madrid. Seville and Cordoba should be pleasant.

If you are willing to drive (it's not difficult) except possibly finding the right road out of Sevilla, pick up a car and drive through the pueblos blancs via Ronda to Granada and return the car there. Allow an extra night (I'd take it away from Granada!) either in Ronda or in Antequera and you'll be able to explore the lovely hill towns. Otherwise, it sounds like a good plan.

An alternative would be to start in Cordoba - it seems that there's not much Semana Santa going on there. After Granada, train/bus to Madrid. It depends on how much time you want to spend in Madrid.

I'd make it 2 days in Granada, 3 days in Córdoba. We really had little to do on our 3rd day in Granada and wished we spent more time in Córdoba

We went in early March this year and got great weather

I have not been, but planning a trip in a similar time frame we arrive Wednesday before Easter and will go to Cordoba and Ronda - back to Madrid on Easter Sunday.

I would look at the Seville to Ronda route... seems in my research it's harder to get to Ronda from Seville, easier from Cordoba. So maybe you want to switch up the order if you decide not to get a car.

Also, Cordoba does have Semana Santa processions (as I understand it) - just not as big as Seville. I know you are trying to avoid, but just checking to be sure I am understanding correctly for our trip...

I am assuming trains run on Easter? Is that correct?

Thx!

We are also planning a similar itinerary about the same time, arriving a week earlier. Flying RT in and out of Madrid, but will catch the AVE to Cordoba immediately on arrival. Stay 2 nights, then to Ronda, Sevilla for Easter, backtrack to Granada, then finish our 2 week stay with 3 nights in Madrid. We have already made room reservations for Easter in Sevilla, due to high demand. We are also wondering about the weather. We like to pack light, but might have to include both cold & warm weather clothing.

My plan is to be in Seville from Tuesday night through Saturday morning of Semana Santa, then spend the next 3 nights, including Easter Sunday, in Cordoba before flying home from Madrid on the 29th.

From what I've read so far, there are few, if any, processions on Saturday. There may be a procession or two on Sunday, after morning church services, except for a large procession in Malaga. I couldn't find anything indicating processions in Cordoba on either day.

rgurmankin - why are you taking the bus to the airport from Atocha instead of the train? I'm asking because I'm also planning to go Barajas directly from Cordoba - but for a late evening flight.

Thanks for all the feedback. Starting in Madrid as don't want to have to sit another 2+ hrs after a long flight. Will look into car rental from Seville thru Granada, esp since thinking of going to Italica (outside Seville). To Chani, you're right, train is better way to airport. I was going off of Rome2Rio and the site listed the bus.

If you're going to Italica, it will be a lot easier by car. I schlepped out there by bus, ugh. Took way too long. Just be sure you have exact driving directions out of Seville.
