2 weeks in Spain with mother

Hi all,

I’ll be traveling to Spain for 2 weeks beginning of Oct with my mother. She is 65 and is mobile but slow and I would like to avoid stairs as much as possible. I’m hoping to plan a slower pace trip. We fly into Barcelona in an overnight flight and land in the morning and leave out of Madrid. We will be in Spain for 14 days in total, not counting the travel days. My plan is to do Barcelona-Seville-Granda-Madrid. Currently I have booked 4 nights in Barcelona but I would love suggestions and the amount of days in each city from you all before I continue planning everything else out.

Thanks in advance!

Having been to all your cities, if you spend 4 nights in Barcelona, when you depart, you could stop in Zaragoza to see the massive Aljaferia Palace. Zaragoza is right on the way to Madrid which you’ll need to pass through to go to Seville. Barcelona to Zaragoza takes 1:30,
with Madrid being another 1:20 by high-speed train.
Then on from Madrid to Seville (2:45) for four nights. Consider seeing Cordoba as a daytrip from Seville. Cordoba is 45 minutes from Seville on the high-speed trains. You also could stop in Cordoba on the way to Granada. Seville to Granada (2:30) for two nights before returning to Madrid (3:40) for your final four nights. A daytrip to Toledo (:35) from Madrid would be the icing on the cake.

So, in summary : 4 nights in Barcelona, 4 nights in Seville, 2 nights in Granada and 4 nights in Madrid. Adding a day here or subtracting a day there is fine, too.

In Seville, staying in the Barrio Santa Cruz will put you close to most attractions. If you’re planning to see Granada’s Alhambra, be sure to get your timed-ticket reservation as soon as you can.

Have a great trip!

You could take the high speed train Barcelona to Seville. It's 6 hours, but comfortable and relaxing. You could spend 4 nights in Barcelona, 4 nights in Seville, 2 nights in Granada, and 3 nights in Madrid. Try to get to Cordoba, at least as a day trip from Seville. Or you could spend one night there between Granada and Madrid. You could spend only 3 nights in Barcelona, depending on what you plan to do there.

Check out days the sights are closed and plan accordingly

Buy timed entry tickets to the Alhambra in Granada, the Mezquita in Cordoba and the Alcazar in Sevilla or you’ll find yourself in those places but unable to see the main sights. Consider a private guide for the Alhambra. It’s worth every €!!
