I've only been to Spain twice, so I'm not an expert, but based on the time of year and you choosing to fly in and out of the same city (consider changing that), I would suggest immediately flying from Barcelona to Grenada for 2 nights; visit the Alhambra - beautiful, but you would do best by getting a ticket in advance online.
Then, bus to Sevilla for 3 nights. You may be hitting the city for the spring festival with costumed men and women on horseback; check the city website calendar. The city has the largest Gothic cathedral in the world (3rd largest Christian church after St. Peter's in Rome and St. Paul's in London), next to it is the Moorish palace, nearby is the bullring operas were set in. Great food.

Then AVE (high speed) train to Madrid for 5 nights, with a bus day trip to Toledo (beautiful setting, medieval style winding streets.
Visit the Palacio Real, the Prado Museum, from there walk the Paseo del Prado on to the Paseo de Recoletos to see fantastic 16th and 17th century architecture. Walk the Gran Via and visit the Plaza del Sol, the heart of the city. Shops and good tapas everywhere.
Then AVE train to Barcelona for the Modernista mansions on Passeig de Gràcia (great walk) and Sagrada Familia mind-blowing cathedral (via metro). Also, see the Picasso museum - his early work made me realize what a talented artist he was as a teenager and the museum shows how his styles changed over the years to what we think of his in his later years.
I know I gave you 4 cities, but this is what I recommend considering the time you have. Great food in every city. Check the Spain tours on this site for more ideas. Have a great trip.

I like goodmantx's suggestion. The Alhambra is a must.

You are correct that your question is vague. I suggest you do some basic internet research by visiting sites like TripAdvisor, or Spain's official website http://www.spain.info/ to get an idea what the country has to offer. After you have some idea about where you might want to visit, then come back with more specific questions.

For the dates you mentioned, they should be fine although you could still run into some colder weather up north. I was in the north this May and it did get chilly (low 40s) in the mountains. For hotels, again, once you have an idea where you're going to go, check TripAdvisor or similar site and check out some of the different options. Finding a hotel that suits your needs during the time frame you mentioned shouldn't be a problem, but a hotel shouldn't dictate where you're going to visit.

Ask yourself, if this is the only time I'll ever be in Spain, which cities should I visit. My list to answer that question is Granada, Cordoba, Segovia, Toledo, Madrid, and Sevilla. Following those would be Cuenca, Salamanca, Ronda, Santiago de Compostela, Avila, Leon, Almeria, and Santillana del Mar. I'm sure I've missed a few, but there are so many great places to see.

I was in Spain over just about the same time span in spring 2016, and the weather was perfect throughout. I agree with the others about trying to fly in to one city, and fly out of another, to avoid the time and cost of back-tracking. I flew into Barcelona, and out of Seville. While the idea of spending 5 nights in each of three places is attractive in terms of not moving around too much, I'm not sure that Madrid needs five nights, unless you like to spend many, many hours in art museums, of which it has several outstanding. I also agree that Granada cries out for a night or two, in order to really explore and enjoy the Alhambra and the views of it in the evening, Barcelona can easily keep you exploring for more than 5 nights. I spent 9 nights there, still did not go to all my high priority spots in and near the city, although I did take day trips to some of the smaller cities and villages near Barcelona. Certainly at least Toledo and Cordoba merit visits, maybe Segovia and other spots too. One of the problems with day trips is that you tend to be there when it is crowded with other day trippers, and you miss the great atmosphere of early morning and the evenings in those smaller cities. If you make day trips, try to stay into the evening before returning to your base, if you have the energy, and the train or bus schedules work out. Of course, 2 weeks is a very nice trip, but not really a long one, so you can't go everywhere

For 15 nights, I guess I would recommend:
Fly into Barcelona, out of Seville.
Barcelona 6 or even 7 nights;
Madrid 3 nights;
Granada, 2 nights;
Seville, 3 nights.

I guess that would call for you see Toledo, Córdoba and maybe Segovia on day trips, or leave them for a future trip.

Or better yet, extend your trip by an extra week!

Here are the dates for festivals in Andalucia 2018 - Seville's ends on 4/22, so you miss it. la Feria del Caballo is in Jerez from 5/5-5/13. Cordoba's big feria is probably from 5/18 (dates not confirmed yet). La Fiesta de los Patios in Cordoba is from 4/30-5/18. Larry went to the feria in Jerez and the patios in Cordoba so if you are interested, ask him. I'm pretty sure he wrote a trip report about his trip, so maybe he'll give us the link . . . or try the search function.

I agree with Larry, there's never enough time in Barcelona and there are great day trips. I also think it's best to leave Barcelona for last, just because it's good to be close to the airport on the night before your flight home. For me the very best sights in Spain are the Alhambra in Granada and the Mezquita in Cordoba. You'll need 2 nights in Granada for a full day to see the Alhambra, another day for the rest of Granada. Then fly to Barcelona (it's too long a journey any other way) for the rest of your trip.

Where else you go depends on what you want to see and do, especially if you want to see the Feria in Jerez.

To consider your options, check the train schedules using bahn.com - they have schedules for nearly all of Europe - to see how long the journeys are. If you land in Barcelona in the morning, you can get a train to Madrid or Cordoba or Sevilla and arrive by late afternoon, maybe early evening.

For me, Madrid is the least interesting city I've seen in Spain. But it has 3 of the finest art museums in the world, the Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia, each covering different periods. If you love paintings, you'll want two full days just for them. And the Palace is top-notch. Madrid is also convenient for day trips to Segovia and Toledo. I've only been to Toledo and liked it very much but as a 2 night stay. Most of the tourists are day trippers from Madrid.

Cordoba is my favorite city in Spain and there's enough to fill either a full day trip from Sevilla or a 2-3 night stay. Though the Mezquita only needs a couple hours to see, it should not be missed. Sevilla is a great place to spend a few days and it's an easy day trip to Jerez for the Feria.

Toledo and Cordoba are both often done as day trips, but they are very different come 4:30 pm when all the trippers go home. There is a lot to gain from 2 nights in each place. If you really cannot adjust to that, then know you will be washing in with the same tide of group tours and day trippers and it will be less than comfortable or relaxing. For Cordoba, train from Seville (about 50 minutes), for Toledo, train from Madrid (similar time). For both these, bus travel is at least double the time.
Granada cannot be done by a day trip. There is much more to see than the Alhambra, so you could be comfortable with 3-4 nights there.

Agree with others to fly into one city and home from another. Flying within Spain is easy and cheap.

If you are staying several nights in one place, I highly recommend an apartment, and not a hotel. More relaxing and less expensive. We are doing that now and really like it. And you get a feel of a city when you go to grocery stores and check out the neighborhoods. A couch to rest on at the end of the day is quite nice.

This trip we spent 3 nights in Seville and enjoyed exploring. I hadnt been there before and can see why people go there.

Good advice
Can I add Mallorca or is that too much spreading myself too thin!!!
Also is Granada and the allambra something I will miss. Is it like visiting the pyramids of Giza or the Pompeii or Versailles or the Vatican museum.

I almost visualize Spain being more a cultural trip with food and Spanish style to enjoy!!!
But I don't know what expect. I enjoyed Greece and Italy last year. Greece was wonderful and Italy is also wonderful.

4 nights Madrid visit museums and Toledo 3 full days
4 or 5 nights Seville visit Córdoba and enjoy culture 3 or 4 full days
5 or 6 nights Barcelona 4 or 5 full days
4 nights Mallorca. 3 full days.

We went to Mallorca and I'm glad we did. Not only is it culturally interesting, it is beautiful and very relaxing.

The Alhambra is a must see. I have been twice and still am in awe of it. I haven't been to Pompeii or the pyramids, but I have been to the Vatican and Versailles. The Alhambra is definitely something to see. The grounds are massive and beautiful as well as the actual palace. It gives you a feel of what it may have been like living in Moorish Spain.
