My husband and I will be spending 4 nights in Cadiz and 6 nights in Salobrena during the first 2 weeks of October.
Accompanying us will be our daughter and son in law and 3 grandchildren ages 5, 3, and 1. The 2 of us would like to take a little 2 day "respite" in the middle of the trip and would welcome suggestions.
I would love to travel to Salamanca, since I studied there in college, but unfortunately it is a little too far!
Granada isn't far at all and is a highlight. If you are looking for something smaller, there some lovely towns in the alpujarras mountains. I have not stayed overnight but have been to Orgiva and Lanjarron. Further away (pushing 2 hours) are Baeza and Ubeda, famous for renaissance era architecture.
Lanjaron is a cute yet small town. There's a small castle there too. I suggest Almeria. It's an actual city and nice to walk around. It has a very impressive castle and a nice market. It isn't very touristy since most tourists don't go that far east.
