I’ll have 2 days in San Sebastián after flying from the east coast and landing in the AM. Looking for highlights of things to do. We enjoy being outside but also like to visit historical places. I know about the Pintxos restaurants and am looking forward to that. Will be adjusting to the new time zone. Heading to the Pyranees for the remainder of the trip. Thanks.
The Peine del Viento, a renowned sculpture by Eduardo Chillida located at the end of Ondarreta Beach, is both artistically important and great fun when the water sprays up through the blow hole. It was a highlight of San Sebastian for us.
Have fun!
San sebastian has an absolutely fabulous Basque museum. I also recommend walking the town and along the beach. It is a stunning city. Highly recommend staying in the old town.
Don’t know when you’re visiting, but if winds up with drenching rain as when we visited in September, the indoor aquarium turned out to be a great place. Out of the rain, but lots and lots of sea creatures, and it didn’t feel like we were exactly indoors.
I always remember that the Basque name for the town is “Donostia,” which you could bring up with the people running the Pintxo bars. Might get you an “insider” serving!
Donostia-San Sebastian is not too big and you can cover the city visits in two days quite easily. The Museo de San Telmo would be an interesting visit, and you may want to go up all the way to Mount Urgull, or Mount Igeldo on the funicular train, for the views. There aren´t pintxos restaurants, it´s bars, and pintxos are never a meal for us but an appetizer we enjoy to have with family and friends, standing and not seated, one per bar, and before lunch or dinner. Lunch is the main meal of the day in Spain, not dinner, which is quite irrelevant for us. You can find pintxos all over the Basque Country, it´s part of our way of life.
