2-3 Days in Girona??

We will be visiting our daughter in Montpellier and then plan to take the train to Barcelona, where we will begin a cruise of the Med. But - we have several days to spare and are tentatively thinking of Girona, which is on the train route ? In Girona, we are looking at the Hotel Costabella or the Nord 1901 (it will still be very hot so we want access to a pool)., Or - possibly - Masia Can Pou - 20 mins outside Girona - which looks lovely but, since we will not have a car, I think that it is too far away from the city - but it does serve dinner, which is always nice. We want to enjoy the museums and simply relax for a few days.

Is spending a hew days in Girona a good idea? And, what do you think of the lodging we've found? Better choices?

Thank you so much!!

A few days in Girona would be lovely.

I can't help with lodgings because I stay in very basic places. I do know that Girona has multiple fine restaurants, which you might want to take into consideration as you decide whether to stay in the city or outside it.

You might consider a day trip from Girona to Figueres to see the Dali Theatre-Museum. For me, Figueres doesn't otherwise have much to justify pulling you away from lovely Girona.

We spent a night at Nord 1901 last year- great experience and well located for walking around town. Girona is really nice, there is definitely plenty to do there for 2-3 days.

That's a very good idea. In addition to exploring Girona, you can also go to the Dali Theater Museum in Figueras one day. I know nothing about the hotels, but your two choices in town look lovely. There are plenty of restaurants in town.

Coming from Madrid, my son and his family have decided to stop in Girona rather than Barcelona on their way to visit us (not far from your daughter). Girona is a lovely small city with welcoming plazas, arcade walkways, and the historic part. My son has his 82 year old mother-in-law with them, so she will be able to walk around more easily in Girona than Barcelona and rest on the plazas.

You have a question mark after the word train route. Yes, both Renfe and SNCF have trains from Montpellier to Girona.

Decision made - we will spend several days in Girona! Wandering medieval lanes and devouring tapas will surely get us in the right frame of mind for the cruise. We're so lucky to have a daughter in France - a ready excuse to travel. Thank you so very much!!

We spent several days in Girona one year and we absolutely loved our stay here. It's a very atmospheric medieval walled town with a river running through it. Somehow rivers in the middle of a city make it that much more special, at least to me, anyways. We stayed at Hotel Historic, located in the old Jewish quarter next to the Gothic cathedral. Excellent, very convenient location.

During our six-week trip to Spain in 2022, my husband and I spent three nights in Girona. It was not on my radar at all, until acraven recommended it on this forum. It turned out to be one of my favorite cities in Spain. Interesting, relaxing, and good food.

Sp glad that so many have enjoyed Girona - we're very much looking forward to it. Booked the Nord 1901 for four nights so that should give us time to really experience the city. Thank you so very much!!
