2 1/2 days in Seville with 2 teens

I will be arriving in Seville on June 5th and we have 2 1/2 days here. I have been brainstorming ideas but want to see if anyone could suggest the top things to do here. We are an active group of 4 that likes pretty much everything except art or lots of time in museums.
With that being said, I understand that there might be some museums that will not want to be missed.

  • possible bull fight and flamenco show ** After Seville we will be headed to spend one night in Cordoba so we do not need to add a day trip for this.

Thank you!! I know this is vague but it will get me started.

In our 2.5 days in Seville last May, my wife and I did all three of the group tours offered by Sevilla Walking Tours, recommended by Nicole above. All three were very enjoyable and informative. Coincidentally, the founder and principal guide of this company is one of the interviews on Rick's radio show today (you can listen on his website, under "Watch, Read, Listen").

Thank you all for the reply. We love walking tours so will definitely take advantage of those. @ David Thank you for the suggestions. Of those, do you know which things must be booked in advance? I'm sure Alcazar is one of them but can you advise me on any others?

Depends on the interests but when we went last year Casa de las Duenas was a hit with my 16 yo and we found it magical. I found out about it online and my understanding was that it was only recently opened and so not in every guidebook yet. It's a house museum and garden, former home of a very eccentric Spanish Duchess with ties to bullfighting and flamenco--maybe not for every teen but mine loved it.

We also stopped in at Archivo General de Indias because it was close to the Alcazar (had a bit of time to kill) and free. I believe Rick recommends it for the architecture only but after years of learning about the conquistadors and colonization of the Americas in school, we both thought it was cool to see this side of it.

One of our favorite things in Seville was walking around the Cathedral area in the evening watching street dancers and bands and eating ice cream and crepes.

Have a wonderful trip whatever you decide to do!

I would think the Alcazar may be best with a booking these days. My last visit was 2006 so it's been some time for me.

@ David... So other than the alcazar, as far as you know, I don't really need to pre book anything else? Also, I saw a RS video last night that talked about renting a car in Seville and driving an hour into Portugal. Do you know how easy/difficult this is? Do we need to get a special license and thoughts on crossing the border?

So far in Seville, we arrive at 10:45 AM from Barcelona on Monday June 5th. I have a 2:00 historical walking tour booked. Remember, we are not into art or museums too much. We really enjoy exploring on our own and soaking in the culture, being active and busy and seeing the "must see's" in each city.

On a different note... from Seville we will be headed to Cordoba for one night. I am trying to avoid anything when it is free to avoid long lines. I keep seeing to take advantage of the Mezquita in the AM at 8:30 when it's free. Thoughts on this and do I need to prebook this? Any other advice on what to see or do while in Cordoba? We have a dinner reservation at Regadera...

I wouldn't think so.

I think this is a bit of a silly idea.

So far in Seville (we arrive at 10:45 from Barcelona on Monday June 5) I have a 14:00 historical walking tour booked.
What does your walking tour cover?

Thoughts on taking advantage of the Mezquita in the AM at 08:30 when it's free?
Yes, why not. We were staying across the street and stumbled in early unknowinglyfor free

Any other advice on what to see or do while in Cordoba?
Enjoy the food, the patios, the Jewish history , and a walk across the Roman bridge.

You're quick, Thanks!
As for our tour in Seville, it includes this...
We start at Plaza Nueva,a well-known place where the town hall is, and we take you through Plaza del Salvador (oldest mosque, currently second biggest Church of Seville). We move for the old town where we find the Cathedral and Alcazar. There we cross de jewish quarter in Santa Cruz neighbourhood. After passing through Avenida Constitución and Archivo de Indias, we end the tour in Plaza Nueva.

Seville has been one of the most important cities in Spain since ancient times. The city of Seville is known for its beautiful sights, the winding streets of its old town and the remains of differents civilizations which have left us a big bequest. Since Tartessian culture, Romans, Visigothic Kingdom, Muslim until today. The tour leads through the main monuments and the history of Seville.

Also, you didn't find that the lines were too long at the Mezquita in the AM when it was free? Did you get right in?

My teenage kids loved the Real Alcázar and climbing to the top of the Giralda for the views. There are ramps, not steps, going up. We also enjoyed the cathedral and seeing the burial site of Christopher Columbus. I have been there three or four times and I have never bought tickets in advance but it wouldn't hurt. We also did a walking tour that we liked and found very informative with Concepción. We went to the old Royal Tobacco Factory which is now the university. We enjoyed the beauty of the Plaza de España and the shade of the nearby María Luisa park. We have not done it but I know that you can kayak down the Guadalquivir River. I would not try to drive to Portugal from Sevilla. It will just take up too much of your limited time. Save Portugal for another trip. Lots to see and do in Andalucía and Spain. There are daytrips to nearby hill towns that can be done.

In Córdoba your family might enjoy exploring the ruins of Medina Azahara right outside the city.

@ Pat, thank you for your info. I will look into it...

Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations in Seville, good but not too $$$?
