we arrive in Barcelona 9/11/14. Turns out it is a major holiday. we are planning on taking a tour outside Barcelona and want to do Montserrat & Sitges. can you recommend a good tour company.
On Friday 9/12, we also want to do the Highlights of Barcelona tour +++.

If the major holiday you are referring to is"La Merce" then I suggest you try and go to as many of the festival events as you can. We were there two years ago and went to a few of the events and it was amazing. It is exactly the type of thing Rick is always talking about "blending in with the locals." Enjoy!!
There are lots of bus day trips to Montserrat that are budget friendly. You can either check with the TI or just drop by the information desk at a bus station and they can show you.
Buses take the place of trains in much of Spain, they are the preferred mode of public transportation between towns. They're nice coaches rather than transit buses.
Sitges may be the same, I'd ask at the TI.
