2 fly to Granada 2 nights
3. Train to Cordoba, 1 night
4. Train to Seville 2 nights and pickup rental car
5. 3 days free to drive along southern coast heading to Portugal
6 Beja, Portugal
7. Evora, Portugal
8. Drive back to Madrid to fly out and return car

Use the renfe.com website to get train schedules.

It may be better to take the train (or bus) from Madrid to Granada rather than schlep out to the airport, check bags, security lines, etc. Why fly into Madrid if you aren't going to see it? Fly to Granada - or Seville.

2 nights in Granada equals one day. Yes, it's a short train ride between Cordoba and Seville, but with 3 nights total, you'll really only have 2 days to see both cities.

If you take your route, Fly in to Madrid, take the airport express shuttle to the Atocha Train Station (5 euros, 25 minutes) and then take the train to Cordoba, then the train to Sevilla, then other transportation to Granada (not sure of train/bus service schedule to there) or rent car in Sevilla and go to Cordoba....no reason to fly from Madrid to anywhere else!!! Renfe trains system...look on trip advisor, purchasing train tickets for the routes, etc. You can save substantial euros by purchasing in advance. The tickets have the car number and the seat number printed on them. Print at home on your computer. Be sure to "register" at the first opportunity on the Renfe site...it makes purchasing much easier.

I agree with Chani. If you're not going to spend any time in Madrid, don't bother flying in and out of there.

I'd add a night in Madrid (major sites and great nighttime ambiance) and only do 2 nights on the southern coast.
