11th Wedding Anniversary Trip to Barcelona & Celebrity Infinity Cruise

Need to make the best of this trip especially when get to Lanzarote, Canary Islands! It's the day of our anniversary and I'm hoping to make it as romantic and interesting as reasonably possible. I really would like to visit the Cueva de los Verdes but the tours start at 08:00 and my ship arrives there at 09:00. Any ideas are welcome!! Please help!!! This is the first time my wife has entrusted me with the excursion arrangements so I really don't want to disappoint!! We return to Barcelona on the 21st so I am thinking we should take the bullet train to Paris and stay for a couple of days. (We have from the 21st till the 29th to fill on our journey) please suggest where and what to do on Christmas Day as well !!! We love to see new places, so we are open to using the high-speed train system to explore multiple countries in a single trip.

I agree with Bets. The Cruise Critic website can be of great help. Check the forum dedicated to your cruise line, as well as the thread for your particular sailing in the Roll Call forum. There is a large Ports of Call forum to look at activities in each port.

Don't overlook your cruiseline's own website. When you log in there you should find the list of cruise line excursions as well as descriptions for each excursion.

Can't Really suggest activities for Christmas day without knowing what city you will be in. Just know that in most cities things will shut down early on Christmas Eve and stay closed Christmas Day. Are your flights already booked as RT Barcelona? If so, you would need to be back in Barcelona the night before your flight home. The travel time by train between Barcelona and Paris is nearly 7 hours, so that effectively uses up most of 2 days. That being the case I'd just stick with Paris and maybe do a couple of day trips.

But if you haven't booked flights yet, I'd suggest a multicity ticket. Fly into Barcelona, train to Paris after the cruise, fly home from Paris. Or take a very early morning Eurostar from Paris to London on Boxing Day (Dec 26) and fly home from London.

Sorry this was so long. Got a bit carried away.

Hi..My hubby & our friends are on the same cruise! We're very excited to see some more sights in Spain and Morocco. I agree with others that Cruise Critic roll call for our ship is the best resource. We booked the catamaran day with Celebrity for Fuerteventura since we couldn't find any independent guides in our time on shore. I disappointed that any tour guides I checked into for all the Canary Islands wouldn't work with our docked times.

We booked Spain day tour for Cadiz with lots of people from our roll call and sounds like a great day. In Valencia we're taking the "My Paella cooking class". We did this on our last trip to Valencia and loved it. Super fun day and fantastic food.

We've decided to fly to Amsterdam after we dock and stay through the 26th. It's another of our favorite cities to explore. Having dinner at our favorite restaurant in AMS on Christmas night! Very excited.

I've taken the high speed over night train from BCN to Paris and it was fun. That might be a great option if you're set on Paris? Any inter Europe flights are usually pretty cheap and will be more relaxing than an overnight train! What about flying to Rome? So much to see there. You can rent a car outside of Rome and see the beautiful countryside.

If you joined the CC roll call - I'm Tbird58. Good Luck on your planning!

The overnight train from Barcelona to Paris no longer exists. I wouldn't want to take the morning train to Paris. 1033 is on paper adequate, but doesn't cover for late docking of the ship for any reason. If you do dock at 0600 it doesn't mean you will be straight off, even if carrying your own luggage off.

To be safer I would choose the afternoon train - arrives Paris 2118.

For an overnight train on a Thursday at that time of the year, it would be the day Cercanias train Barcelona to La Tour de Carol at 1430, then the SNCF night train to Paris from La Tour at 1850. Take your own food and drink. It is not a hotel train like the old Barcelona to Paris sleeper was- but elderly couchette cars.

So the day train makes far more sense
