Spending 10d in April , arriving Madrid and leaving 10d later from Barcelona. Would appreciate any suggestions about what would be best : split 5 days in each, 3 in each and other places to visit/stay in between?
Thanks

Since you know best what kinds of things appeal to you, I suggest you click the 2 cities on this page to help decide how to divide your time. Both are great, but they are different.

If you’re spending 10 days on the ground in Spain, I would suggest that you split it between Madrid, Granada, and Barcelona. I found Granada and Barcelona, more interesting than Madrid.
What are you interested in seeing? Churches, castle, historic places, architecture?
Visiting son studying in Madrid, so want to spend at least 3 nights there. ending in barcelona and figure at least 3 nights three. We currently have 5 nights booked in each and planned to do 1 day trip from each city (coming back to city hotel) but wondering if we should do some over night stays in other cities in between
Since your son is in Madrid spend at least five days there so he can show you around to his special places. We visited our kids during their studies abroad and saw things we never would have if on a tour or alone.
5 Madrid
3 Barcelona
2 Seville
I’d stay with Madrid and Barcelona, and possibly Zaragoza that is between the two if you feel you must add another city.. With your limited time I’d skip heading to Sevilla, Granada, or anyplace too far north or south.
