10 nights in Spain updated plan - Thank you for your help!

I have spent the last few days reading recommendations on locations. I want to nail down the locations prior to booking a stay, transformation, and attractions. Here is what I have so far for our family of 7: 3 adults, 16 yr, 2 x 14 yr, and 10 yr. I appreciate your feedback based on your experience. I can't find where to book a bullfight in Madrid; help, please. Is 5 nights in Madrid too much? **I initially thought of going to Paris 2 nights and staying in Madrid 3 nights, but I quickly realized that it should be two different trips after reading feedback here :).******

So we are staying in Spain (Seville, Granada and Madrid). Please let me know if I should rearrange or if I missed anything. THANK YOU!

Please let me know if I should rearrange

The Basilica de San Juan de Dios and the Monastery of San Jeronimo are about 1 minute walk from each other. You might like to group them, in which case I suggest the Monastery first. If you can only do one, I recommend the Basilica where the teens might enjoy the Virtual Reality tour. (Find the 4 VR stations along one aisle of the Cathedral seating. )

I do not see the dates of your trip. For a bullfight, you need to go during bullfighting season, so your chances of attending one are heavily based on the dates of your visit.

We stayed at the Anacapri in Granada in October 2022. Loved the hotel, the people, the breakfast, and location. When we were there we did our laundry, they charged €16 for a bag, whatever you could fit in. You could email them to ask if they still have this service.

Looking at the bullfight schedule I see no fights at Madrid’s Las Ventas in March. There is one fight listed for Illescas, Toledo province, on March 9th, but you won’t be near there on that day. In the event fights are added to the calendar I suggest buying tickets at the bullring on the day of the fight. Most fights don’t sell out and you wouldn’t be out any money if you decided not to attend or got busy doing other things.

Remain flexible with you itinerary keeping in mind you may spend more, or less, time at locations. Visit your must see sites first so you’re not disappointed if you need to cut something out.

With Sevilla, you have visit the Plaza de España on Friday and then take a carriage ride to it on Sunday. Those could be combined. The plaza is a 12 minutes walk from the cathedral where you can get a carriage.

Likewise, visit the Giralda Tower when you visit the cathedral since they are connected.

Keep in mind that you could save money in Madrid by visiting either the Prado or Reina Sofía during their free admission hours. You probably won’t need 1/2 for the Reina Sofía unless you’re really into art.

Oh man, I might change it and stay in Madrid first so we can go to the soccer game that weekend and the bullfigh in Toledo. I thinks the kids will enjoy that before going sightseeing the rest of the trip.

The fight is in a town between Madrid and Toledo, not Toledo itself. You’d need to check transportation schedules to find out how to get there.

For bullfight calendars I went to the servitoro website. For Las Ventas, you can visit its website to check if fights are added.

You'll want to take the train between Madrid and Toledo; there are buses, but they are much slower. The fare between Madrid and Toledo is fixed, but those trains do sometimes sell out, including the later trains running back to Madrid. It is a very popular excursion. The trains won't fill super early unless there's something quite special going on in Toledo, but there is a risk to waiting to buy the tickets on the day you want to travel. Rick strongly suggests buying the return ticket in advance so you don't risk getting marooned in Toledo. (Though a bus back to Madrid might be a last-ditch option.) The Toledo trains depart from Madrid's Atocha Station. The station in Toledo is in the modern part of town, below the historic center. I'm sure there must be buses going from the station up the hill. There are escalators that assist with most of the climb, but I think there's still a good bit of walking involved. There will be taxis, too.

You'll also want to take a train from Madrid to Segovia. That train will depart from Madrid's Chamartin Station and arrive at Segovia Guiomar. Most of the trains are expresses whose fares vary with demand; travel times are virtually identical on all the express trains at less than half an hour. You'll want to check the schedule and fares well ahead of time and think about whether your plans are firm enough to buy tickets in advance, which would probably save you money. The Alvia trains and the often quite expensive AVE trains offer Basico tickets that are neither changeable nor refundable but also Elige tickets that can be changed or partially refunded. It appears the extra cost for Elige tickets to Segovia is minor. I don't see a changeable/refundable option on the less expensive Avant trains.

You can buy tickets for Renfe trains online at renfe.com. For Iryo trips, you'll go to the Iryo website instead. You'll definitely want to buy ahead for the Seville-Granada, Granada-Cordoba and Cordoba-Madrid trips. They are all likely to be much cheaper if purchased early. If you have problems getting Renfe to accept your credit card payment, you should be able to make those purchases on thetrainline.com. It will probably cost a bit more. Don't try to buy there until you can see the tickets you want on renfe.com.

If you don't like the Seville-Granada train schedule, you can consider traveling that leg by bus. Spanish intercity buses are quite comfortable, and between those two cities the bus route is more direct, so not much slower than the train.
