What help are you looking for? In order to give any advice, we need to know exactly what you need the SIM for. Calls back to the US? Calls within Spain? Calls to someone you're traveling with? Lots of calls or just a few? Do you need data, and how much - just to check an occasional map, or enough to drive around with Google Maps?

For more information about Spanish SIM's, a great resource is Prepaid GSM. Here is their page of operators in Spain: http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/spain.php

Here is their Spain and Portugal Forum (note that posters can get very technical, so don't be afraid to ask for clarification): http://www.prepaidgsm.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=33

elgio,

It would help to know where you are travelling from?

In order to use a Spanish SIM card, your mobile must be unlocked. When you arrive in Spain, ask the staff at your hotel to direct you to the nearest mobile phone shop. The main cell phone networks in Spain are Movistar, Vodaphone, Orange and Yoigo. You might find it helpful to check the websites for each of those to get an idea of the plans and costs.

The answer to your questions is yes, all your contacts, data, apps, favorites etc will remain on your smartphone (well for Iphone for sure).
In Spain i have used Orange twice and was happy both times.

eligio,

Buon Giorno! I hope this translation is correct....

Per poter utilizzare altri sim nel telefono, il telefono deve essere sbloccato.

In Inglese....

I believe most phones in Italy are unlocked but you will still need to check this.
