Place to stay in Barcelona-safe-walking distance and breakfast?

Heading to Barcelona- but leaving my father for alone for 1 week in Barcelona, he needs to be in a safe area that is walking distance to sights so he can take photos, go to historical sights or museums. Breakfast included if possible
Thanks for suggestions

I don't know what your budget is -- or more important -- your definition of safe... And you didn't say how experienced or adventurous your dad is -- or how concerned you are for him.

My wife and I are in our late 60s -- and very fit and active and we travel frequently. Last June we stayed right around the corner from Placa de Catalunya -- in a hotel when we first landed, and in a vacation rental when we were there for nine days with our son and his girlfriend. We walked EVERYWHERE -- to Familglia, to the Gaudi buildings, to Catedral de Barcelona, and we did laps up and down Las Ramblas all the way to and along the waterfront. We walked at night. We walked early. We walked during the heat of the day. We never felt threatened.

There is a very wide range of places to stay... Affordable (depending on your definition). Expensive.

As we prepped for the trip, posters on this forum made Las Ramblas sound as though people were getting mugged constantly. Everyone has their own threat level. Maybe mine is higher than others on this forum. I don't know. I simply didn't feel threatened.

With all of that said, you, your father, or anyone -- including locals -- must always be aware (but not afraid of) their surroundings. On Las Ramblas I saw women hand balloons to children -- and then demand payment from the kids' parents. On Placa de Catalunya, I saw guys (mostly guys) talk up tourists and offer to take photos and selfies with the tourists using their phones -- and then make it clear that a tip was expected.

So that's a long way of saying, around Placa de Catalunya is a really convenient place in my book.

I see you're looking for a place that also offers breakfast... In that area there are plenty of places to start his day, and I'd encourage him to sit at sidewalk cafes to people watch while he eats. Conversations with locals and tourists are easy -- and part of the fun.
