Menu del Dia in Barcelona, Seville and Madrid

We will visit Spain in a few weeks, and plan to make our main meal lunch in mid-afternoon because we're not night owls. Can you recommend restaurants that serve a daily fixed price midday meal? Points for neighborhood restaurants, and local and seasonal food. We're also visiting Grenada and Toledo for shorter periods.

Many, many restaurants will offer a midday menú del día and usually they are quite filling and delicious. The one place I remember going to on two different trips to Madrid was Restaurante Puerto Rico on Calle de Chinchilla, not far from Puerta del Sol. It is NOT a restaurant that specializes in Puerto Rican dishes and I know that some go there thinking that because of the name. The food is typically Spanish. The mid day menú was plentiful and reasonably priced and the place was packed with people. I had one of the best Austurian bean soup/stew ( fabada) there! It was recommended to us by our hostal receptionist.

The menu del dia is an excellent work-around to late dining in Spain. You will have no trouble finding menus posted at many restaurants. Quality, quantity, and value are always good. In November in N. Spain the ranged from €12-18. They usually are good until 3P.M. If I get hungry later on I'll often get a beer and a couple of tapas.

If you are programmed to eat your dinner at a certain time it doesn't matter if you are not a night owl given that Spain is 7 hours ahead of Vermont. Just go with the flow like the locals and eat Tapas when you're hungry and out in about. we found that enough or paella. You don't necessarily have to have a main meal given the variety of tapas and tapas bars everywhere.
