Madrid smaller hotel

Seeking a recommendation for a hotel in Madrid for May 2024, for 3 ladies that prefer smaller hotels located close to public transportation.. No chain hotels like Marriott or Holiday Inn.
Thank you to all that respond.

A thank you to all who replied to my request for a small hotel recommendation in Madrid. I have now received enough information to decide.
Thank you all, again

I've stayed at Hostal Acapulco three times and would stay there again if I ever go back to Madrid. It is not a hostel but rather a small, family run hotel in a great location, close to a couple of metro stops and within easy walking distance to Gran Via, Puerto Del Sol, and the Royal Palace . The first time I stayed there, I went with two friends and we had a room with three beds. The hotel isn't fancy but it is sparkling clean, comfortable and has air conditioning. I haven't been there since 2018 but it still has really good reviews on Google and TripAdvisor. I don't think that their rooms can be booked on 3rd party websites.

We have also stayed at the Hostal Acapulco, and loved it. It's been a few years, so I'm glad to see it's still worth mentioning. We decided that whenever we return to Madrid, that's where we're staying.

We like the Hostal Central Palace Madrid and have reservations to stay there again in 2024. It’s at a quiet location with a great view, but it’s easy to walk to sites or take the public transportation.

We had a very enjoyable stay in the middle of many restaurants and sights at Hotel Roommate Alba. It is a very small chain. Here's Booking.com's description:
"Ideally located in the center of Madrid, Room Mate Alba offers air-conditioned rooms, a fitness centre, free Wi-Fi and a bar. This 4-star hotel offers a 24-hour front desk and concierge services. The property is non-smoking and is located less than 1 km from Plaza Mayor. Rooms include a desk, a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom, bed linen and towels. All include a wardrobe and a kettle. Room Mate Alba has a sun terrace. Popular points of interest near the apartment include San Miguel Market, Puerta del Sol and Reina Sofia Museum. The nearest airport is Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, 13 km from the property."

For mid-May it's @ $220 per night for a double room.

We are used Hotel Europa several times. You cannot get any closer to center of old Madrid than that, We like the front rooms with the French balconies overlook the piazza. It is a little noisier but we like looking out over the piazza. The rooms in back are quieter.

Another vote for the eHotel Europa. It is very much in the center of Madrid.
