Lodging in Barcelona, Spain

Best area for lodging in Barcelona to see as many sights within a 2 mile radius. We like a more quiet neighborhood with grocery, coffee shops, and small restaurants in walking distance.
We love experiencing the crowds in the city but would like our lodging to be away from the crowds. OK to take public transit for out of the way sightseeing. Would welcome suggestions.

Proximity to sights depends on which ones interest you. The museums are not concentrated but tend to be between Pl. Catalunya and the port (not on a straight line). The modernista sights tend to be out beyond Pl. Catalunya. Since you prefer quiet, I'd go with the Eixample, beyond Pl. Catalunya. The Eixample is residential and seemed to have plenty of restaurants and casual eateries; they generally appeared to be frequented by locals rather than tourists.

If you find a spot not terribly far from Pl. Catalunya itself, you'll be able to walk to a lot of places if you're a good walker. Also look for a location that's convenient to a Metro station since there will almost certainly be times when you want to take the Metro.

I have reservations at Center Hotel Barcelona but haven't stayed there yet. These are condos that have been turned into a hotel. It is in the Eixample neighborhood, there are two groceries within walking distance as well as a metro. It has a full kitchen, living room, dining room and bedroom. 158 Euros. I've also looked up the address on Google Maps and it looks great!

We stayed at Hotel Regencia Colon in the Old City. Around the corner from the Cathedral and Las Ramblas. Great location. Would stay there again.

We stayed at the Hotel Centro Barcelona. THe hotel is on a quiet pedestrian only street near Placa de Catalunya. We took the Aerobus from th airport and it was very convenient.
