When I was responding to a recent post asking for recommendations for lodging in Sevilla, I realized that I had neither posted nor even completed the review of the Fernando III that I had begun soon after we arrived home. Well, it's time to rectify that:
Hotel Review: Fernando III, Sevilla, September 2025
After our recent Rick Steves Best of Spain tour, Stan and I opted to stay on in Sevilla a few days. As is usual for us, we switched hotels as soon as the tour ended. The tour had been staying at Hotel Amadeus Sevilla, and we moved to the Hotel IMG Fernando III, at San Jose 21, just around the corner from the Amadeus.
There wasn’t anything wrong with the Amadeus, but the Fernando III was much less expensive, an average of €170 (breakfast included,) per night, as opposed to €260 at the Amadeus. I had seen it recommended on the Forum as an alternative to the Amadeus, and was delighted that we did.
The Fernando III is modern, with light bright surfaces, and is larger than our usual choices. But in spite of the size, and the impression of a more “business class” hotel, the staff was wonderful, and always eager to help.
We had a standard double this time, on the first floor up. The bed was two twins pushed together, and very comfortable. There was a desk with a chair and lamp, two night stands, a mini-fridge, and a big closet with a safe. The window opened to a closed courtyard.
There was a/c, and an elevator.
The breakfast room was large and bright, with a great buffet. There were meats, cheeses, fruits, breads, cereals, three kinds of eggs, hot and cold vegetables, yogurt, and juices, and multiple coffee machines. The staff was very attentive, refilling water glasses and whisking plates away as soon as you took the last bite. But they weren’t at all pushy, and were very helpful.
One of the attractions of the hotel is the rooftop bar. Our first night there, the rooftop bar wasn’t open, but a bar just off the main lobby was. On our other nights, the lobby bar was closed, but the rooftop bar was open. The staff is helpful; the seating area is spacious with a variety of tables, chairs, and stools; and the drinks were not as expensive as some we encountered on that trip.
There are several bars and restaurants just minutes away, and it’s an easy walk to the Cathedral and Alcazar area.
We enjoyed our stay at the Fernando III very much, and recommend it highly. Should we ever be fortunate enough to return to Sevilla, we will definitely book this hotel again.
