Finca al-manzil, Montanchez, Extremadura, Spain

Although I booked and prepaid a one-week stay at this place, the owners took me to another of their properties, a remote location where--after I was dropped off--I was the only human being for miles around. The location consists of two converted mill houses and an outbuilding of showers and toilets shared by the occupants of the mill houses. My mill house was filled with safety hazards--e.g., a propane tank within the structure, an undulating stone floor (so severe the bed has to be suspended by ropes from ceiling because there is no even floor area on which it can stand) that invites a nasty fall, and no phones to summon help in an emergency in either the mill house or the outbuilding. I left after 18 hours and my advice to all travelers: Avoid this place! If you choose to disregard that advice, pay close attention to the owners' Cancellation Policy, the fourth line of which reads: "Once the week has commenced there will be no refunds on unused portions" (portions referring to the 100% prepayment--cash only). That means that if you show up and realize that you've been deceived by the online description and photos and care to leave upon seeing the actual accommodation, you are not entitled to receive a single euro of what you've paid. So if you'd like to visit Extremadura, consider staying at the nice hotels in Trujillo, Merida, Caceres, etc.; I'm certain you can find--as I eventually did--far safer, far more pleasant, and far less expensive accommodations.
