I'm having my morning coffee in our room at the Central Palace Madrid hotel with the floor to high ceiling balcony doors open to the Oriente Park directly below and the Madrid Royal Palace directly in front of us. Recommending this now because it's such a great find! This small hotel is a gem with a friendly receptionist and free breakfast if booked through their website. The room is huge, especially for a city hotel! Modern bathroom, comfy bed, beautiful clean room design. We're on the 3rd floor.
Thanks, will add it to my Spain notes for future trip.
If you had to chose over again - would this be the neighborhood you would choose?
Hi Wendy, we really like this area of Madrid! We took the Metro over to the Prado (quick ride) and Retiro Park, but walked back. Otherwise, everything is within walking distance. In the evenings we've strolled the Teatro Real to Puerta Del Sol area and Plaza Mayor, mostly, besides going to specific restaurants. The Mercado de San Miguel is handy!
The Plaza Oriente is relaxing and a nice amount of people. The hotel is quiet enough in evenings to sleep well. There's several pedestrian streets in this area vs, heavy traffic.
Wendy, we did take a taxi from Atocha, just for convenience.
Wendy, what is wrong with that area?
That location is pretty convenient for my favorite central area, which is around Plaza de las Pajas, but it does mean you have a distance to go to get to the big 3 museums. It also means you could walk up to the Plaza de España area, so if you put those higher on your to-do list than the Thyssen or the Lavapies valley, then it does look like a good choice for lodging. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the recommendation. When we were in Madrid, we stayed in that area, but not at that hotel. Sounds great.
