We second El Cortes Ingles in Barcelona. Especially enjoyed the Paella and Sangria. Delicious variety of entrees. One of the best panoramic views of the city! And the basement store is not to be missed either.

I was suggesting this to my friend who is leaving for Barcelona next week. Great views in spite of the dirty windows and the food was cheap and good. The place was also full of locals which is a good sign.

The El Corte Inglés in Madrid has the same arrangement. Interesting food choices and good views.

We bought wine at the store itself. We also bought some underwear for my husband, 'cuz he forgot to pack any. He found some really nice lightweight and trim-cut boxers that he wishes he could find here, but no luck. The men's underwear section is quite . . . Interesting.

Okay, Sasha, you've piqued my curiosity. My DH had to buy underwear in Canterbury, but I don't remember anything noteworthy about the men's underwear department in Sainsbury's. So I guess the next time we're in Spain I'll have to go underwear touring. In the department store, of course!

Let's just say that some of the torso mannequins are modeling what I would call "enhanced" underwear (briefs not boxers).

The brand my husband liked was Dustin. Very fine cotton, not like the Oxford cloth boxers from Brooks Brothers he usually bought. Total convert to the "less is more" idea, even if they wear out more quickly.
