Affordable hotel near Madrid airport

Hi all - We'll be flying home from Madrid on 3/25. Looking at prices for hotels near the airport and find they are very expensive - the Hotel Maydrit was recommended in another post but the cost is $175!! Is that what I should expect? If anyone has an idea of where to stay that's more affordable, I would be grateful. If it helps, we'll be taking the train in from Seville to Madrid on the 25th.

Many thanks

Personally I would stay in the Madrid, and take a taxi to the airport in the AM. As I remember from the last time, taxi was only 20, maybe 25 euro and in the morning it is a quick trip. You have posted in the Review Section. You probably would get more and better response if you posted in the current section -- Spain, Destination Q & A.

Thanks for the tip - maybe I'll look for a place close to the train station instead!! We do have a 10am flight so thinking we should be at the airport by 8am.

We stayed in Aranjuez, about an hour from airport night before, 2x. Had a relaxing dinner. Walked around. Turned in early and headed to airport. Several decently priced options.

For a flight to the US, the consensus is to be at airport 3 hours before departure.

If the $175 cost for a hotel was good for " !! ", you will likely use "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" for the walk up airfare cost if you miss your flight.

We like Hotel Maydrit. It's close to the airport and they have a free shuttle. The rooms are clean and they have a pool, a restaurant/bar and some outdoor space. We usually get there the day before, as early as possible. There's a subway station in walking distance and you can go into the city and see some last-minute attractions. When you get back, if it's summer, you can sit by the pool while you decompress on your last day. The rooms are about 100$ or a little less. Good luck.

Try the Hotel Nuevo Boston. It has a 24 hour airport shuttle. I have stayed there twice and would stay there again. It should be less than $100 USD.

Thanks all - Hotel Nuevo Boston does not have a room available for that night and Hotel Maydrit is $200. But I did find a room at Hotel Melia that has a shuttle. And I'll be there 3 hours ahead of time!

We stayed at Hotel Europa 3 years ago which is centrally located at Puerta Del Sol. Looking at their website you may find a room for under $175. Close proximity to restaurants and major sites. We would not hesitate recommending this hotel.

** Edited: I see you found a hotel. Great!

In November we flew into Madrid from Santiago and had to overnight for a 6:20 am flight home. We stayed at Tryp Alameda Aeropuerto for the advance purchase rate of 80E. They had a free and reliable shuttle to and from the airport. We had a clean room which was the only part of the hotel we saw. We were returning from hiking the Camnio so we didn't need anything but a hot shower and a bed for a few hours. I would stay again.
