Not sure what the price ranges are there, but we would rather not stay in a large deluxe hotel. We like to stay in small, quaint type of accommodations, like Sobes in Croatia, run by locals, close to restaurants, quaint neighborhoods, etc. We will be traveling for 5 weeks around Europe, so value is important.

Thank you,

Jody

We are still open on this part of our trip. Barcelona for 3 days, then San Sebastian area for a few days. Need to be in Paris on Aug. 17 so we are flexible and haven't decided if we will rent a car or go by train. Will fly or train to San Sebastian

I don't think you'll want to take a car across the border if your trip ends in France. The international drop fee will probably be punitive. A bus is the best way to get from San Sebastian to Bilbao. The train is scenic but much, much slower. Other destinations in the area are generally accessible by bus or train, but not always quickly. So much depends on exactly where you want to go.

Hi Jody,
We are returning to San Sebastian in late April of this year. We have booked an apartment through Airbnb, you may want to see what they have to offer. I also use HomeAway sometimes in Europe when we travel there. If you haven't used these before, I can tell you that we have never had a bad experience (yet) but always check the reviews and the details about the property. Our minimum requirements are a/c, wifi and a real bed (not futon or foldout sofas).

We previously went to San Sebastian with a RS tour and loved it so much we are returning on our own this time. I also suggest you check his guidebook for hotel recommendations.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the info. We are only staying 3 nights, so VRBO or airbnb may not be an option. We will check it out. Since you have been there before, do you have any `don't miss' sights or things to do?

On the RS Basque tour, we stayed at the Hotel Parma which is in the Old Town. The hotel was fine ... nothing fancy.

Thanks for the info. Tried to check availability on their site; site won't let me enter or pick any dates. Guess I'll try another hotel or pension.
