Hi everyone. I would be visiting Slovenia in July this year for 10 days. I would rent a car and explore all the mountains and the national parks. I have a question to those of you that visited Slovenia and explore the country side, do you guys insect repellant everyday for the ticks? Because I found out that Slovenia has one of the highest Lyme disease cases in Europe. I just want to be safe going to another country after my trip to Slovenia. That's all. Thanks.
If you wear jeans, shoes & socks ( tuck the pant legs into the socks) a long- sleeve shirt with a windbreaker—- ticks don’t have a lot to sink their teeth into. Repellant cuts the chances even further.
Doxycycline and amoxicillin are effective treatments for Lyme disease. Ask your doctor about a prophylactic prescription.
If you are in the US, you can get clothing that is treated with permethrin. Insect Shield is one brand I know of. https://www.insectshield.com/
You can also buy permethrin spray to treat your own clothing.
Then you shouldn't have to use as much repellent.
Be careful if you use a repellent containing DEET, as it can damage plastic (e.g. cameras, eyeglasses).
"DEET is a plasticizer and can damage certain rubber, plastic, vinyl, or elastic materials such as contact lenses, eyeglass frames and lenses, watch crystals, combs, painted and varnished surfaces, and certain synthetic or treated fabrics"
For this reason, and others, my preference is to use repellent that contains picardin (aka icardin). https://ticksafety.com/removal-prevention/tick-repellents/
When I travel, I usually bring repellent wipes.
Hi Enryu
I use this product to spray our shoes and all clothing before our visits to Scotland's hills. It has not melted or stained our clothing, does not have a lingering odor. We have found it to be very effective for our needs.

I believe it is also sold on Amazon.
