Vrsic Pass w/guide?

My husband and I are in the early stages of planning a trip to Slovenia. We've read many of the wonderful tips and info on this website. We are very fit and like to get into the woods and mountains by walking, although we're not up to long, strenuous, uphill hikes.

We'd like to travel over the Vrsic Pass, leaving from Lake Bled, and on to the Soca Valley, but think it would be more enjoyable for both us if someone else did the driving. If we drove ourselves, we'd probably spend a night in the Soca Valley to enjoy the area, but we don't know how this would work with a guide. Also, would we need a car to get to trails, restaurants, etc.? Where would be a good place to stay? (Kobarid?) It appears we could get a bus from the area to Ljubljana when we leave.

Or is better just to hire a driver/guide and make one long loop day trip, using the car train to return to Bled?

If you want to have someone drive you, I would recommend Elizabeta (or one of her daughters). Her Tours by Locals website is https://www.toursbylocals.com/BohinjskaSloveniaTourGuide, but you would want to reach her through the website of her company that does more than just tours so that she can offer you a better price: https://www.topagencija.si/en/home

Look at the "Excursion over the Julian Alps" tour on her Tours by Locals page. Again, you will get a better price by contacting her directly through the Top Agencija website -- Tours By Locals charges a "finders fee" that gets passed on to the customer.

There is a bus service in the Kobarid/Soča Valley area, but it is not super convenient for getting to trail heads. A car would be very desirable for that area.

Thank you, Dave, for the helpful information. Will check into your guide recommendation.
