Was planning to visit Lake Bled and Vintgar Gorge same day (we are staying in Ljubljana and doing day trips from there with our rental car). Then got idea to just spend day at Lake Bled and visit Vintgar Gorge the day we depart Ljubljana for Salzburg. How long should we plan to stay at Vintgar Gorge? The total trip from Ljubljana to Salzburg (without stopping) is 3.5 hours. Anyone have thoughts on either plan? First time in Slovenia! Thanks.
Plan on 45-90 minutes hiking the gorge. You also need to factor in parking at a remote parking lot and taking the 20-minute shuttle bus to the gorge entrance; the same amount of time to return to your car. Shuttle buses run every 20 minutes.
Yes, good idea to get an early start and do Bled and the gorge on your way from Lju to Salzburg. Gorge is worthwhile, but allow plenty of time as there can be delays waiting for shuttle and also there can be a long walk at end of gorge back to shuttle pick up. Enjoy!
Lake Bled is quite small; you can walk all the way around it in 2 or 3 hours. Add time if you want to take one of the little boats out to the tiny island.
Your passage through the gorge could be somewhat slowed if you're there at a crowded time.
We were not really impressed by Lake Bled, only spent one hour there and skipped the boat ride. Look up Mostnica Gorge. You could do the hike after Lake Bled if you don't want to spend the whole day there. Stopping at Vintgar Gorge enroute to Salzburg is smart. We really enjoyed the longer loop hike to the church and back across the fields.
