vignette in Slovenia

I will be renting a car for one week in Slovenia. I've read different reports about using a vignette when traveling on the roads. Do I need to purchase this with the rental car agency that I'm using or is it cheaper to buy it elsewhere, and if so, where?

I think this has been discussed in previous posts in the subforum, so for backup,
you might want to search.

I rented my car with the vignette (ask for it specifically, not all rental cars have one),
but I believe you can purchase it online, and I assume then plug in the license plate
number to activate the vignette.

What I don't know/recall is if the rental car company charged me for the vignette. It
was a more expensive car to begin with, so who knows. But a yearly vignette is, I
think, a lot less per week than a short-term vignette, so maybe the rental car company
just absorbs the cost.

I rented a car in 2019 from Hertz at LJU airport and asked about this. A vignette was already "attached" to the car, so i did not have to do anything regarding this.

I rented from Sixt in Ljubljana a few days ago and they said all their cars came with electronic vignettes included. You should check with your rental company ahead of time to ascertain if yours will have a vignette. Apparently sometimes rental car counter staff can try to sell a vignette even though the car already has one, so it's best to know ahead of time if yours comes with one.

If you rent a car in Slovenia, usualy all cars have a vignet. Check the policy of your rental company or platform.

When we rented a car at Ljubljana airport, we were told we had to pay extra for the vignet. We booked at Sunny Cars and in their terms I found that a vignet for the country you rent the car in, is always included! Presenting this to the car company made them refund the vignet.

Be aware that you only need the vignet for the highways. It is possible to avoid the highways, but if you drive without a vignet this will cost you a big fine.
More information about the toll vignets is realy clearly explained at the tourist information site:
https://www.goslovenia.si/travel-guide/slovenia-toll-vignette/

When in Slovenia, you see where your money goes: The highways are in very good and condition!

We’re in Slovenia now. We came from Croatia. We stopped at a gas station when we crossed the boarder, they all sell them, and purchased it there. It was $15.00 Euro.

Ditto Aly's post. However, the 1st gas station we came to was some 5-10 miles away, leading to some anxiety! The vignette was 15 euros.

We rented in Croatia and purchased the e-vignette online after we rented the car, before driving into Slovenia. You need the license plate so cannot purchase it until you have the car on hand. From what I've read, it sounds like most rentals within Slovenia come with the e-vignette. I believe they are all electronic now. Check with your rental company.
