I plan to stay in Slovenia from early September to the end of October or maybe starting end of August. I do want to avoid the bigger crowds. I plan to get an apartment In Ljubljana and explore Slovenia And get to know locals in Ljubljana. I’ll also travel to some nearby countries, a couple days here there.
Any suggestions of areas to stay in for an apartment? That’s just outside the old city, places to see and visit in the capital as well as other parts of the country. I have been to Lake Bled. I will not be renting a car
A few activities to consider:
- Neptune's Baptism in Piran. There is a maritime secondary school in Portoroz. The weekend the first year students arrive, there is a festival in Piran to celebrate their initiation into the maritime world that includes their baptism -- being chucked off a pier into the sea. During the festival Neptune and his pirates take over the city. The event usually happens in early September and usually runs during the Tartini Festival, which celebrates composer and Piran native Giuseppe Tartini with small concerts around town. Neptune's Baptism. Tartini Festival.
- The Cow's Ball in Bohinj is one of my favorite travel things I've done. It's a celebration of cows coming down from their summer homes atop mountains. Alpine culutre at its best. And the best hamburger I ever ate. Looks like it got canceled this year for weather. Cow's Ball.
