Trip to Skocjan Caves.

We found Skocjan Caves and Piran Private Day Trip from Ljubljana on Viator for May 11th. https://www.viator.com/tours/Ljubljana/Unesco-Skocjan-Caves-and-Piran/d5257-33653P8 ($113 per person) We will be in Ljubljana to begin the RS tour of the Adriatic on May 12. Because it's a private tour we can't schedule it for less than 4 people. Is there anyone out there on the Adriatic Tour that might be interested in this day trip?

If you get no takers and you really want to do this itinerary, I'll offer you a couple of options I've come across while working on a trip to Slovenia for the fall:

  1. Contact George at Slovenia Private Tours. I worked out a transfer with him from Ljubljana to Piran with a full-day of touring (including Skocjan Caves) for around the cost of 2 people doing the Viator tour you describe (not including tickets to the caves). He has good reviews on Trip Advisor. https://www.slovenia-private-tours.com/

  2. If you can go on Friday, Slovenia Explorer has a Skocjan Caves/Piran trip (minimum 2 people, maximum 8 people) for 109 euro per person. I looked them up because someone on the forum recommended them. http://www.slovenia-explorer.com/visit/skocjan-unesco-caves-piran/

As another idea, you can rent an Economy sized car in Ljubljana from Avis who has a counter inside the Grand Hotel (in the town center, steps from the main square) for about $52. It's a VERY easy 130km (one way) drive from Ljubljana to the caves and to Piran. If you take the most likely route, via E61, you'll need to purchase a "vignette" for the highways (Avis may be able to sell you one) - about 15 Euros. With the "vignette" and petrol and entrance tickets to the caves, it's probably still cheaper than the $113 for one person, certainly cheaper than two.

If you were to drive, you could also make a stop at Lipica, the horse farm that raises the Lipizzaner stallions. It's 13km from the caves.

If you got an early start, you could visit the caves, go on a guided tour at Lipica (check days of tours, which are not daily) and spend a few hours in Piran; either have dinner in Piran or a late dinner back in Ljubljana. For a more leisurely version, go with your original plan and skip Lipica.
