Traveling from Lake Bled to Vienna

My husband and I have a Rick Steve's tour ending on a Sunday in May. Will be going to Vienna for a few days before flying home and we are trying to decide the best way to get there. Our choices are #1 Hire someone to take us to train station in Villach HCH and then take a direct train to Vienna, we would not need to change trains. #2 Hire someone to take us to bus station in Ljubljana and then take bus to Vienna. #3 This choice is the most expensive. Hire someone from Daytrip.com to take us directly from hotel in Lake Bled to Vienna. Cost of 400 euro.

Not sure how hard it is to get someone to take you to Villach or Ljubljana. I'm seeing a lot less options for buses and trains from Lake Bled on a Sunday. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

My suggestion: Buy a train ticket from Lesce-Bled to Vienna. Sounds a lot easier than trying to get a taxi to Villach or Ljubljana, not to mention a lot cheaper.

Shoot, for 400 Euro, I'll drive down myself and bring you back to Vienna. Just kidding.

Just take public transportation from Lake Bled to Villach. Do a search in Google Maps to show you how. Not hard and cheap.

Avoid the FlixBus, in my opinion. It is cramped and not always clean. I take it several times a month on this route.

I'd be shocked if you had a problem getting a taxi from Bled to Ljubljana. It's a popular run. Other options suggested may well be better, but you shouldn't worry about the Bled-Ljubljana connection. There's also bus service, which I used multiple times back in 2015. I don't remember how frequent it is.

Hi Kathy. As Badger said, you can just take the train from Lesce-Bled to Vienna. You can see choices and buy tix on Oebb website. Is there some reason you don't list that as one of your choices?

Dittoing Bob and Badger - please don't let the idea of changing trains worry you - there is plenty of time to do so at Villach and there are many trains to Vienna from there per day (just make sure your train fare is flexible enough just in case). I searched on Sunday May 12 and there are trains Lesce-Bled to Wien (transfer at Villach) at 6:11, 10:06, 11:14, 12:17, 16:17, 18:15, 22:55. The 10 a.m. train is standard group fare of €127 for two, the 16:17 train is €46 (but that fare has some restrictions). There is a note it is a peak travel day so you'd probably want to add the 6 euro seat reservation for peace of mind. The RS folks will help get you to the train station.

Thanks for all the ideas and encouragement. I think I have it figured out. Will leave Lesce-Bled Station at 1006. Arrive Villach at 1107 and then take the 1114 train to Vienna and arrive at Wien HBF, Vienna at 1536. My only concern is whether 7 minutes is enough time to get from one train to the other?

I would not be worried about 7 minutes in Villach, it is a rather small station.
