I was wondering if anyone has a recommendation for traveling from Budapest To Ljubljana. I am taking 2 tours back to back and was interested in the most efficient way to travel. Train versus bus?
Its not an easy connection. The bus is about 6.5 hours but direct. Trains have changes and take a good 10+ hours. There was once a night train check the MAV site. If there are several of you a transfer service might make sense, but I am guessing $1000 for 3 or 4 passengers.
This is one of those trips where you want to visit something on the way, Salzburg for instance, then the train isn't a killer.
Thanks! I was leaning toward Flixbus because it is the fastest.
I have taken the train the opposite way from Ljubljana to Budapest, and can confirm that it was a very long trip and very crowded. The bus sounds like a better option.
There is a daily direct train that takes around 7.5 hours. A bit slower but should be more comfortable (and in part very scenic). https://www.seat61.com/international-trains/trains-from-Budapest.htm#Budapest-Ljubljana
My bad, I got lazy when looking. There are 3 trains a day ranging from 7.5 to 8.5 hours. I would definitely do the train. You can buy the tickets from the Hungarian rail service. Sorry for the reckless answer.
