Transportation Venice to Ljubljana question

What are the best options/estimated price for travelling from Venice to Ljublana?
Ideally we would leave Venice on a weekday morning and arrive Ljublana same day.
We were thinking train through Trieste but
not sure if that will work w limited schedules from Trieste to Ljublana.
Should we plan a quick overnight in Trieste because of the train (we are doing Trieste sightseeing later in the trip)

Also, where is best site (with English translation) to buy these tickets?
How about bus or private car options.
If you have done this, please provide as much detail as possible.
Thank you.

About a decade ago I did this with a bus to Villach, Austra to transfer to a train into Ljubljana. I can’t remember if it was a single ticket, but everyone on the bus was catching a train. I have no idea if that is still the best route or not.

We took the Flix bus from the Venice airport to Ljubljana. I see they also run a bus for Piazzale Roma. It was very comfortable and just over a three-hour ride. This is the website: https://www.flixbus.com

I've seen multiple positive comments about the company GoOpti on this forum. I know one of the routes it runs is Venice-Ljubljana. I cannot tell you the cost--surely a good bit more than a bus but I believe less expensive than at least some other transportation options (like Daytrip.com). I've read that with GoOpti you have a choice between a more expensive, fixed-schedule trip and a less expensive trip on your date but at a time of the company's choosing. I think GoOpti uses vans.

We have used Daytrip.com multiple times, and always had great success. Their cancellation policy is very generous.

I am traveling in May Venice to Piran and then onto Ljubljana. Train from Venice to Trieste and then you can go onto Ljubljana. I take Flixbus whenever I can, always on time and always get seat IC, aisle by the door so driver does not block my view.

Our friends in Bavaria suggested using the Rom2Rio website for suggestions on inter city travel in Europe. We looked at Dubrovnik to Glurns, Italy where our friend will meet us and it came up with several interesting options, Fly/train, Train/bus, etc. I think we will use it and it's worth a look.

The first thing to do after looking at Rome2Rio is find the website of the company actually providing the transportation and check the details there. Rome2Rio is often wildly incorrect about travel times, frequencies and costs. I consider it utterly useless for trains, whose schedules are typically quite easy to find online. Buses are trickier, so using Rome2Rio to find the names of companies serving the travel leg you're researching can be helpful--though I think a simple Google search might be as effective.

We used Go Opti for a connection to Venice airport from Bled. I can’t remember the price but it was very reasonable (we chose the cheapest option, which guarantees you arrive by a certain time, but pickup time is based on their schedule). It was a acraven described above. The transport was a minibus/van type, maybe 12 passengers. It worked well and I would use them again.
