Transportation from Ljubljana Airport to Lake Bohinj

A small group of us will be traveling to Slovenia this summer. We will be renting a car. Three of us will arrive in the morning and will rent the car and drive to Lake Bohinj, The final person will arrive in the early evening. Is there an efficient, not-too-expensive way to get from the airport to Lake Bohinj?

Your options per Rome2Rio:

Here's another source that reviews the ways to get from the airport to Lake Bohinj:

It looks like you have your choice between efficient and inexpensive, but it's harder to meld the two.

Best options:

  1. Search the Arriva website (https://arriva.si/en/) to see how well you can match up buses to avoid a long wait between Bus 1 and Bus 2. You want "Brnik/airport" to "Kranj AP" for your first bus. You want "Kranj AP" to "Bohinjsko jezero" for your second bus (or all the way to "Bohinj Ukanc" if staying on the other end of the lake).

  2. Consider a cab from the airport to the Kranj AP bus stop (10-13 euro per Rome2Rio) and then catch the bus to Lake Bohinj.

My experience with the Arriva bus drivers was that they spoke adequate English. Kranj AP is NOT a bus station; it is just a stop. The ticket can be purchased from the driver when boarding. Luggage will probably have to be stowed under the bus unless it can be carried on the lap.

Oh yeah... you (and the bus) pass through Bled to reach Bohinj. Summer + Bled = terrible traffic. The bus schedule becomes an estimate rather than an accurate guide.

There are also some direct express buses to Bled (I believe the last one departs at 5pm or so), from where you can catch an onward bus to Bohinj. Bohinj itself is a large rural area so note the closest bus stop to your hotel to ensure the person can alight at the correct stop.

Another option is booking a transfer with one of the shuttle operators: GoOpti, iGoLine, Zup Prevozi etc. If you opt for a shuttle transfer make sure to book in advance. They'll be able to take them directly to your hotel.

I forgot about shuttles. Go with a shuttle if that's an option. Then you don't have to worry about bus connections.
