What's the best source/website for schedule information?
My first look showed only one train, leaving late and arriving later. Is this all there is? Would flying make more sense?

What day? How far in advance are you looking?
There are a few trains every day between the two cities but it will include a change.

best source and tickets https://www.oebb.at/en/
connection at Villach roughly every 2 hours. One odd train with connection at Graz. And the direct train you found. Other options are probably no benefit on these.
