Ticks in Slovenia

I have read in a few guidebooks that there are British and American travel advisories for tick-borne diseases in Slovenia, particularly in the northern areas. We are planning on being in the Triglav and Lake Bled area in August this summer with our kids, and I'm wondering how serious a risk ticks would be if we are doing amateur hiking. We live in Minnesota, so we are familiar with ticks and Lyme disease, but the tick-borne encephalitis sounds a little more daunting.

As long as you're taking precautionary measures, such as avoiding undergrowth and tall grasses, using repellent, checking yourself at the end of the day etc. you should be fine. TBE is rare but it is present, with about 50-100 reported cases per year. If it's a big concern to you, you can also get vaccinated, which is very effective, although I do not know whether it's available in the US.
