I am spending a week in Slovenia (splitting time between Lake Bled and Ljubljana). Looking for any and all recommendations, including Bohinj Restaurant, wine tastings, hikes, attractions, etc. We have accommodations handled. And we have one dinner–at Hisa Franko–on the books.
A few weeks ago we found the bees to be overwhelming at Lake Bled restaurants. I suggested to a tour member to dine inside, and it was a more pleasant experience for them. Our RS tour did a Michelin restaurant in Ljubljana and it was one of our worse dining experiences in two weeks.
Really enjoyed my stay at Mescanka rooms in Ljubljana. Very nice apartment style rooms, great air con, and superior location right on the river. Thick windows too.
Also in Ljubljana, Sokol restaurant fronts like a tourist trap, but is legit. Classic meat and potatoes with very friendly staff. Slovenes are all about ice cream (along with coffee and cigarettes) and some of the best is at Vigo. Worth waiting in line for.
At Lake Bled, don’t miss the summer luge if it’s open. This one is intense and FAST. It can hurt you. While I had low expectations, the whole boat ride to the island was pretty pointless. Basically, it’s a pricey ride to a snack bar. Give it the skip without regret.
Since you are dining at Hisa Franko, I will say the Kobarid Museum is small
and very interesting. The ossuary just up the hill is worth a look, as well as
the small sculptures in the enclosures along the way.
Skocjan Caves are awesome and worth a stop if you can fit it in along the
way to or from Ljubljana.
I very much enjoyed Julija restaurant in Ljublana. I ate there twice and loved it as much the second time.
I am currently in Europe travelling and just left Ljubljana two days ago. The city and particularly the Old Town is so pretty. We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Allegro in the Old Town but be aware that it does not have an elevator. We also enjoyed a typical Slovenian meal one evening at Julija Restaurant as mentioned above by Lane. If you have the chance, do a daytrip to Piran. We did not go to Lake Bled.
