2 nights Lake Bled
1 night Lake Bohnij
3 night Bovec
We will be traveling in September and we will have a car and two boys ages 12 and 10.

I think Bohinj is close enough to Bled that I would stay 3 nights in Bled and take a day trip to Bohinj.
Lake Bohinj is actually inside Slovenia’s only national park— Triglav National Park. That may be why the contrast with crowded and commercial Bled—30 minutes away—seemed so striking.
I would recommend staying at Lake Bohinj.
If you take the bus from Ljubljana to Bohinj Bistrica— near Lake Bohinj—you will see Lake Bled on the way as the bus does a stop at Bled. Ribcev Laz is closer to Lake Bohinj than Bohinj Bistrica and has a lot of lodging options.
