Slovenia Aug 12 - Final Itinerary - Comments/Help

Hello RS Readers -
Our trip, which has been planned since around mid-March is almost upon us! We are excited to travel to Slovenia for the first time. Many of you have been very helpful as we assembled this itinerary. If you could look this over and add any last minute thoughts or recommendations, I would appreciative.

Leave US 8/3 for Budapest

Sun. 8/12, Leave BP arrive LJ at 1:30pm. Pick up Rental Car and drive to Postonja. We hope to walk through the Predjama Castle that afternoon. Evening at Jama Hotel

Mon., 8/13. First group at Postonja Cave. Leave approx noontime. Drive to Lake Bled via: Gorenja Vas via Route 407, Skofja Loka, Kropa, Lake Bled. Arrival time about 5:30-7:00pm. Dinner
Question: Is the ride along route 407 nice? Is it worth the extra time as opposed to the more direct route to Skofja Loka?

Tues., 8/14. Stay in Bled for the day. Lake Bled, Lake Bohinj, Vintgar Gorge
Is this too much for one day? If so, what should I drop?

Wed., 8/15. Earliest departure, 6:00AM. Drive to Kranjska Gora and then down the Vrsic Pass. Stop in Korabind, Soca, Bovec. Arrive Trieste, Italy around 2-4:00pm. Spend the evening in Trieste.

8/16. Meet friends arriving by small cruise ship into Piran, 9:00AM. Leave Piran about 2-3:00, Drive to Ljubljana, drop off rental

8/16 evening - 8/17 All day/night Ljubljana
I have no Ljubljana itinerary...was thinking visiting Metalkova, Museum of Modern Art

8/18 - Ljubljana. Breakfast - buy that last something, head to airport for departure about noontime.

Route 407 is very nice and worth the time. Vingar Gorge visit as early as you can to avoid mass tourism and continue to Bohinj. It's fine for a day.
Ljubljana go on free tour at 11am at Presern Squere, infront pink church. is a must.

Ljubljana is lovely and charming - but small. There's really not much to the town - a few museums, the castle, Tivoli park maybe. Walking around the place (and taking pictures) is always my favorite thing to do there.

I'm not much of a museum person, but I enjoyed a tour of the Jože Pučnik (key architect who designed many of the notable buildings and bridges in town). It's just a 30 minute guided tour. The walk down there and back from the center of town is one of my favorite things to do in Ljubljana.

I would plan a short day trip for Friday just in case you get bored. You're already heading to Skofja Loka, but there are some other neat towns. You could train to Radovljica, Kranj, or Kamnik for example - small towns (Kranj is a little bigger). If you're loving your time in Ljubljana, don't go anywhere. But check out the train (and bus) schedules ahead of time, assuming you are ditching the car as you arrive in Ljubljana (if not, obviously can just drive anywhere). Otherwise, that's really all the planning you need to do.
