"Anyone who's been have any recommendations? We'll be in Ljubljana, then near Retje, then Bohinj. Parents and teens. Ideal is Sunrose 7, cuisine, neighbourhood feel rather than fancy, emphasis on great food. But open to all suggestions.
Thanks
In Ljubljana, Sokol looks kitschy and the laminated picture menus ought to be a massive red flag, but the food is legit. If you’re looking for traditional stick-to-your-ribs fare, this is the place. Staff was friendly and fun.
I also recommend Pop’s Burgers, right on the river at Ribji Trg. It’s very busy and popular for good reason. Great location/atmosphere and terrific “gourmet” style burgers. Usually, getting a burger in Europe is a bit of a punt, but this was so good that I went back a couple nights later.
Our meals at Julija and Gostilnica 5-6 kg in Ljub are the two best ones in our entire trip.
Georgie's Bistro in LJU was phenomenal!
If you happened to be in Bled for dinner , Ostarija Peglez’n on the main road along the lake is wonderful, not traditional Slovenia food, more Italian, delicious seafood and pasta. The decoration of the place is a sight itself, our teens loved it. It is a very popular place. For dinner, reservation is a must or show up by 5:30pm. We also had dinner at Central, It is a practical restaurant for families. Good value, tasty local cuisine on the main road outside of the busy town center.
Both places were recommended by our host.
If you have a car, restaurants at outskirts of the town centers (popular with locals) are also good options, cheaper price and food are just as good.
Eating options in Ljubljana include many international flare, middle-eastern(very good falafel) , ramen(hit or miss), Indian etc.
Bohinj: I ate at Restavracija Lovec at Ribčev Laz in 2019. A great meal with locally sourced food. It's nice to compare the Bled cream cake with the less commercial Bohinj version.
