My wife and I are on a cruise that arrives in Koper at 11 AM on June 3. I would like to visit relatives near Metlika, which I understand is about 2 and 1/2 hours from Koper by car. I would like to hire a private, English/Slovene speaking driver who can spend the day with us driving us, translating for us as necessary (relatives do not speak English) and return us to our ship by 6:30 PM. I know this is crazy but it is my one opportunity to visit these relatives and I don't want to miss it. Thanks in advance for any advice and recommendations for a reliable transport/tour company that can assist us.

Have you contacted your cruise lines with this question?
I just checked the Rick Steves Crotia/Slovenia book on excursions from Koper, and was surprised to see he recommends the couple Tina Hiti and Saso Golub. Surprised because they are based in Bled and it would be a good distance for the trip you suggest, but it seems they pick up passengers from the cruise port for day trips to Ljubjiana or Bled, or wherever. According to the RS book the charge would be 300 euros for up to 3 people from Koper. Their website is www.pg-slovenia.com. They also lead RS tours, and are the couple on his Slovenia TV shows, although those are about 10 years old. (We have hired them for a day trip from Ljubljana to the mountains a few days later in June. It usually took Saso a few days to respond to emails. There is also a phone number on the website)

Wiz Tour is owned by a couple (small business), is based in nearby Izola, and may be able to help you. I spent a day with Demian while in Piran. While I would not describe him as warm, he was very professional, competent, and informative.
